Sneak Peek: 2018 Lexus LS 500

Sneak Peek: 2018 Lexus LS 500

San Jose drivers won’t settle for anything less than the best, which is why we’ve been getting so many inquiries about the all-new 2018 Lexus LS 500. Featuring award-winning design and an innovative eco-conscious engine, the flagship sedan is fully redesigned and nearly ready for you to take home. Bay Area residents can sign up to reserve one now for Fall 2017. But in the meantime, here’s a sneak peek of what you can expect from this groundbreaking luxury sedan:

    Powertrain

You don’t need to sacrifice power for fuel economy, and the all-new LS is proof. The LS 500 has a newly designed 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a 10-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission, built on a rear-wheel drive platform. While the previous generation of the LS was powered by a V8, the new iteration boasts more horsepower, churning out 415 ponies and 442 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the LS 500 will take you from zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds. EPA estimates on fuel economy haven’t been released yet, but the Lexus twin-turbocharged mechanics typically equate to class-leading efficiency.

Additionally, the LS comes with a hybrid option – the LS 500h. This model has been built with the Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System, and combines a 3.5-liter V6 engine with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. It features a continuously variable transmission, and makes a net 354 horsepower, going from zero to 60 in 5.4 seconds.

    Styling

While slightly larger than the previous generation, the all-new 2018 LS maintains a sleek profile with its newly designed exterior. It’s the first Lexus to feature six side windows for visibility – particularly useful for drivers, but your passengers will also love the expanded view of the Bay Area during cruises. Add to that an outer-slide moonroof, and you’ve got the ultimate ride for scenic drives. The 2018 LS also features windows that are flush with the body and a classic Lexus spindle grille with a redesigned mesh for a unique, 3D look. Drivers get the option between five wheel designs, such as the innovative 20-inch electroplated version with a hollow rim for noise reduction.

The 2018 LS 500 was awarded the 2017 EyesOn Design Award for Design Excellence – Interior Design. It's something you'll need to see in person to truly appreciate because it's unlike anything you've ever seen. Some key interior features include hand-pleated leather door panel details and handmade Kiriko glass ornamentation.

    Safety and Tech

Lexus is keeping with its trend of equipping all new models with standard Lexus Safety System+. This advanced suite of features includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Keep Assist, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and intelligent high beams. Additionally, drivers can opt to add the world’s first Intuitive Pedestrian Detection with Active Steering, as well as a color Heads-Up Display, with the Advanced Safety Package.
