Review: 2018 Lexus IS

Drivers in San Jose who want a luxury compact car will find a sure bet in the new 2018 Lexus IS. With a curated lineup of trims and engine options, deluxe standard features, and an array of options, it’s your ideal entry into the luxury market.

Performance and Fuel Economy

The 2018 IS 300 with rear-wheel drive has a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that makes 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It goes from zero to 60 in 6.9 seconds and gets 22 MPG city and 32 MPG highway.

The IS 300 with all-wheel drive has a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 260 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It has a zero-to-60 time of 6.1 seconds and gets up to 19 MPG city and 26 MPG highway.

The Lexus IS 350 comes with rear- or all-wheel drive and has a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 311 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. AWD models have a 6-speed automatic and get a combined 22 MPG, while RWD models have an 8-speed automatic transmission and get a combined 23 MPG. The IS 350 RWD goes from zero to 60 in 5.6 seconds.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2018 Lexus IS a best-possible 5-Star Overall Rating, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named it a Top Safety Pick. Plus, it’s equipped standard with the latest in driver assistance technology.

Each model includes the Lexus Safety System+, including Lane Departure Alert with Steering Aid, intelligent high-beams, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection.
